12th senator finally proclaimed

MANILA, Philippines—Exactly two months after the May 14 polls, the Commission on Elections yesterday proclaimed Team Unity’s Juan Miguel Zubiri a senator, ending a bitter political squabble over the 12th spot in the race.
“I’m so excited to buckle down to work. To my friends in the Senate, here I come,” Zubiri told reporters.
He said he was looking forward to working with his friends in the Senate, particularly Francis “Chiz” Escudero, Alan Peter Cayetano and Benigno “Noynoy” Aquino III, who, like him, were members of the previous House of Representatives.
He said he would also like to work with his rival, Aquilino “Koko” Pimentel III’s father, Sen. Aquilino “Nene” Pimentel Jr., whom he called his “idol.”
Escudero, Cayetano, Aquino and Pimentel are with the opposition.
